Flavours and fragrances of an extraordinary food and wine asset
Riviera delle Palme: a unique food and wine heritage
If you wish to plunge into the sweet countryside, you can visit the many wine producers that give life to prestigious wines and find relief in one of the many pleasant farm holidays to taste delicious courses of local tradition served with authenticity and genuineness of other times. Instead if you love the sea you can attend the passage of the fish just caught by the fish boats on the cooker of one of the many good restaurants on the coast, beacause here the fish is always fresh, thanks to the fact that the Palm Riviera has one of the most importants ports of Italy: San Benedetto del Tronto.
The table of the Palm Riviera
We invite you to sit at the table of the Palm Riviera, beginning with a starter made of local salami and cheeses, together with the well known "Olive all'Ascolana" (big stuffed fried olives) and "chichi ripieno", a tempting pizza filled with tuna fish, anchovys, capers and pickled vegetables. As first course we suggest the famous "Maccheroncini" (fine egg pasta) of Campofilone, a noble plate which origins go back to the 400s, or the renowned "Vincisgrassi" (oven cooked pasta). As second course you can choose from many meat dishes, like rabbit "ncip' nciap" and roasted wether kebabs, or also from many fish dishes, such as the well known "brodetto alla sambenedettese" (a fish soup) and angler. All can be served by delicious local DOC wines, for example Rosso Piceno Superiore, or Falerio dei Colli Ascolani, an appreciated white wine. As dessert you can choose from different specialties like "funghetti" of Offida, "Peschette" of Acquaviva Picena, all added with "Anisetta Meletti" (an anissete liquor).
The renowned Brodetto of San Benedetto del Tronto
No visitor to San Benedetto del Tronto can leave without tasting the famous "Brodetto" the pride of fisherman. It is a complictaed dish and you have to order it well in advance. The city has many restaurants and charming spots scattered throughout the center, along the coast, and on the nearby hills that are real "terraces over the sea".
